Here is the mystery of Seattle’s Cave Singers: They never listened to much folk music, they never intended to play folk music, and more importantly, their guitarist never picked up the instrument until recently. Yet, this strange trio is writing and performing some of the most hypnotizing folk music we have today.

9/14/07--The Cave Singers - Easy Street Instore
Just a word of warning to our Seattle constituents that newish Matador signing The Cave Singers will be playing at Easy Street Records on Tuesday, September 25. Said event coincides with the North American release of their amazing debut CD/LP, 'Invitation Songs', which funnily enough, is available now for preorder from the Matador Store.
Though we've also made a limited edition 7" of "Seeds Of Night" b/w the non album "After The First", analog-haters can absorb the former right here.
8/2/07--Limited edition pre-release 7" now available in the Matador Store
We've got some copies of a totally limited edition 7" single from the future folk Seattle sensation The Cave Singers available for purchase now. Before diving into the upcoming full-length, Invitation Songs, get a taste with this single. And for a taste of that taste, you can listen to the A-Side, "Seeds of Night," right now.
The single features an exclusive B-Side that won't be on the record, entitled "After The First Baptism." And (here's my best Bob Barker voice) that's not all! It comes with a sticker good for $2 off of the album when it comes out September 25.
6/11/07--The Cave Singers sign to Matador Records
We couldn't be happier to announce --- despite having already
been scooped by Pitchfork --- that we've signed the Seattle trio The
Cave Singers to a longer-than-long, worldwide pact. Composed
of vocalist Pete Quirk, percussionist Marty Lund and guitarist
Derek Fudesco, the band's first full length, 'Invitation Songs',
recorded with Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Pretty Girls
Make Graves) is due out this Autumn.

The Seattle Weekly's Brian Barr describes the trio's approach
as akin to "an updated version of the Anthology of American
Folk Music. Not the graduate-student, learned interpretations
of folk music circa 1962, but folk music approached by way
of punk rock. It's sparse, melodic, and simultaneously creepy
and alluring, like the widow mourning graveside in Johnny
Cash's 'Long Black Veil.'"
