Ugh, really?

http://pitchfork.com/news/39167-inte...rn-to-matador/

Quote:
New York gloom-rock kings Interpol have returned to Matador, the label that introduced them to the world. Matador released their first two full-lengths, Turn on the Bright Lights (Pitchfork's 20th favorite album of the last decade) and Antics. (Their last one, 2007's not-exactly-beloved Our Love to Admire, came out on Capitol.)

We've already reported that their forthcoming fourth album will be self-titled and that former Slint member and all-around indie gunslinger David Pajo has joined the band, replacing departed bassist Carlos D. And now we can tell you that Matador will release the new album on September 14.

Also, Pajo's not the only new member of the band. As Interpol themselves report on their website, Secret Machines member Brandon Curtis will join the band on their forthcoming tour dates. Curtis will sing and play keyboards.
I guess it doesn't really matter who puts out an Interpol record at this point, but I think of all the better things Matador could do with that money... like paint the bathroom or have donuts in the office on Thursdays AND Fridays. Maybe even rescue an office kitty cat from the pound.

Just think how many kitties they could rescue on the back of the sales!

I expected this news, and am happy about it. Terrible last album aside, I still really love that band, and they remain one of my favourite live acts. Really looking forward to the new album, and seeing them in November/December.

Judging by the speed at which their Dublin gigs sold out, their popularity hasn't waned over here in the least. YAY!

Just a reminder that Paul hated Antics, which was pretty good really

Not to rehash (very) old arguments, but Interpol did a good thing in 2001/02 by getting lots of peers/bands to investigate an old sound with Turn on the Bright Lights. Then they immediately proceeded to suck harder than all the rest of those bands combined.

I actually thought that the LP on Capitol, first 3 so-so songs aside, is actually a really great record.

Its pretty funny that Pajo's in the band, but I welcome this news.

David Pajo will eventually play in every band everywhere.

Did you guys listen to the Julian Plenti album? Any good? I never got around to listening to it other than one mp3 that was posted last year. I'm assuming you hate it, Paul. Right?

The first Interpol album was fire. I never really cared for the others....

I only ever heard the giveaway mp3. My interest was already low, but that pretty much killed it.

I pretty profoundly disliked the Julian Plenti album based on the lyrical content, but I thought he had some pretty good musical ideas.

I still have hopes for Interpol though, welcome back home to them.

Whoa, they've got a song called "Always Maloze"!

Or near enough.
